Ministry Partners in Lira, Uganda

Our connection with ministry partners in the district of Lira, Uganda, began with an initial donation in 2006 of $25,000 to a Christian development organization called Lifewater International. Lifewater provides safe water, sanitation and hygiene education for communities around the world through training and partnerships with local organizations.

The funds we provided to Lifewater were used to build and repair wells, and provide sanitation and hygiene training to six villages in Lira. Our investment brought water and health to more than 5,000 people who had not had access to safe drinking water.

Divine Waters

In 2007 we were invited to travel to Lira and visited the villages in which WellSpring wells had been placed. During our trip, we formed a vibrant relationship with Divine Waters, a local drilling team that is actively building wells throughout Lira. Since that time, we’ve been blessed to have two of their staff members visit WellSpring, and we made a second trip to Uganda in 2009 to discuss future collaborative projects.

Kirombe Church

Divine Waters is just one arm of the outreach efforts of Kirombe Church in Lira. Other ways in which the church is reaching out to the people of Uganda are through programs in healthcare, education and AIDS relief, to name a few.

Ongoing Relationships

Through our relationships with these three ministry partners, WellSpring will continue to do what we can to meet the needs of people in Uganda. Plans for the future include:

  • Building several more wells and providing critical sanitation and hygiene training
  • Sponsoring a dozen adults by providing the funds necessary for further education so that they can be self-sufficient and provide for their families’ needs
  • Help fund a new health center that will provide care for AIDS patients, malnourished children and pregnant women
  • Resource the teen’s and children’s ministry at the church to have a greater impact on the youth in Lira
  • Take a team to Uganda to help with healthcare, education and children’s and youth outreaches
